Bob Marley’s Greatest Hits

Bob Marley, who is Nesta Robert Marley in real life, is a legendary Jamaican musician and songwriter known for his music that infuses reggae with ska and rocksteady. He was the lead singer for The Wailers from 1964 to 1974, and Bob Marley and the Wailers from 1974 to 1981. He had become the icon for Jamaican music and influenced the spread of reggae genre all over the world. Below, you will find some of Bob’s greatest hits.

Get Up, Stand Up

Get Up, Stand Up is a hit song written by Bob Marley and Peter Tosh. This song revolves around the Rastafarian belief that the Emperor of Ethiopia was God incarnate. This song is memorable because it was his last performance on stage at the Stanley Theatre in Pittsburg, a few weeks before his death.

Waiting in Vain

Waiting in Vain is one of Bob Marley’s most popular songs that reached the 27th spot on the UK Single Chart. This song, which was later revived by Annie Lennox, hit the 37th spot in the UK Single Chart in 1995.

Stir It Up

The upbeat intro of this song gets people in the mood for relaxing and chilling out. The version of the song that we usually hear today comes from the Catch a Fire album of Bob Marley that was released in 1973 through Island Records. But before that, the song has been released through The Wailers’ own label and through Johnny Nash’s I Can See Clearly Now album.

Could You Be Loved

The Wailers conceptualized Could You Be Loved song in 1979 while on the airplane. The middle part of the song was inspired from the first single of Marley in 1961.

Three Little Birds

This one is from the album Exodus. It landed the 17th spot on the UK’s Top 20 in 1980. In the music video, you will see a young girl moving around the streets carrying a television that show video clips of Bob Marley. Graffiti animation of birds and lyrics make this music video very interesting. With its inspiring tune and lyrics, it’s the perfect song to listen to if you need a little cheering up.

Perfect for jamming sessions, it’s one song that you’ll find hard to resist to dance to. When you close your eyes and listen to this song, you’ll instantly be transported into a beach scene with a reggae bar beating some drums and the people around partying like there’s no tomorrow. This single, which was released in 1977, also came from the Exodus album. Most parts of it was recorded in London during Marley’s recovery from an assassination attempt.

While Bob Marley had hit it big in his career, it’s actually his family that he consider as his biggest achievement. One of his children, Ziggy Marley has taken after his musical legacy. Now known as a world famous Jamaican singer and songwriter, he formed a band with his siblings Cedella, Sharon and Stephen called Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers. Whether you’re a fan of Bob or his equally talented son, Ziggy, you’ll love to get a free Ziggy Marley wallpaper for your computer desktop.
